Mid-Century Italian Venetian Etched Glass Wall Mirror with Crest
$2,400
About
Crafted in Italy, circa 1970, this antique Venetian wall mirror showcases the refined artistry of mid-century Murano glasswork. The rectangular form is crowned with a beautifully shaped scalloped and crested pediment, composed of hand-cut mirrored glass panels assembled in the traditional Venetian manner over a wood backing. Each segment is delicately etched with stylized floral and foliate motifs, interspersed with dotted borders and accented by small rosette details, creating a light, decorative rhythm across the surface. The mirror features a beveled central plate framed by layered glass elements with softly undulating contours, adding depth and dimension. The etched decoration reflects the classic Venetian technique of hand-engraved ornamentation, long associated with decorative mirrors produced on the island of Murano. The overall composition balances traditional Venetian elegance with the cleaner, more restrained lines of the mid-20th century, making it highly versatile in both classic and contemporary interiors. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light wear to the silvering and edges consistent with age. The back retains a later black-painted wood support with hanging hardware. This antique mirror would make a striking focal point above a commode, in a powder room, or layered into a gallery wall, bringing light, texture, and unmistakable Italian elegance to any space.
