Pair Mid-Century French Painted Genre Scene Oval Glass Pendants in Gilt Frames
$1,300
About
This elegant pair of antique wall pendants was crafted in France circa 1960 and features hand-painted genre scenes rendered under convex glass in the Rococo revival, Louis XV style. Each oval composition depicts an intimate interior scene inspired by 18th century French life, with finely dressed figures, draped textiles, and playful narrative details executed in a delicate and softly nuanced palette. The paintings are executed in a refined hand-painted technique on the reverse of the glass, creating a luminous surface quality reminiscent of verre églomisé decoration. One scene portrays a standing female figure attending to a reclining gentleman in a richly appointed salon, while the companion piece depicts a resting figure within a curtained bedroom interior, both compositions filled with movement, texture, and period charm. Each work is signed in the lower register, the signature appearing indistinct but consistent with decorative studio production of the period. The pendants are presented in their original oval gilt frames, accented with textured fabric matting and molded borders that enhance their classical presentation and warm aged patina. These antique pendants remain under glass and are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light surface wear consistent with age. A refined and highly decorative pair, ideal for flanking a mirror, doorway, or mantel in a traditional interior. Dimensions: 8″W x 1″D x 10.5″H each
