Pair of 18th Century Patinated Greek Terracotta Olive Jars with Ochre Glaze
$6,900
About
Bring timeless Mediterranean character to your space with this impressive pair of 18th-century Greek olive jars. Handcrafted circa 1780, each terracotta vessel features a classic ovoid form with deeply ribbed horizontal bands in high relief, originally designed for storing and fermenting olive oil. The thickly potted bodies are topped with wide, flared necks and retain remnants of their original warm ochre glaze, particularly around the shoulders. Centuries of weathering have produced a richly textured surface with encrustations, mineral deposits, and scattered chips, testament to their authentic outdoor use and historical function. Measuring approximately 35 inches high and 26 inches in diameter, these monumental jars make a striking decorative statement. Good condition commensurate with age and use. Ideal for use as planters, entryway features, or sculptural elements in a Greek Revival or Mediterranean-inspired setting. The tall Mediterranean olive pots are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich earthenware weathered finish. Approximately 90 pounds each. Some natural wear around the rim. See detailed images.
