Pair of 19th C. French Neoclassical Cast Iron Cassolettes Urns on Marble Bases
$1,500
About
Decorate a mantel, console, or bookshelf with this elegant pair of 19th century French cassolettes. Crafted in France circa 1890 from patinated cast iron and mounted on tiered green marble bases, each urn-shaped vessel is richly detailed in the neoclassical style with gilt accents. Measuring approximately 14.5 inches high by 7 inches wide, the cassolettes feature scroll handles, a removable domed lid with flame finial, and a continuous relief of frolicking putti in Bacchic celebration. Delicate vine and foliate motifs enhance the upper body, while the fluted stem and foliate socle add classical refinement. The richly veined marble bases provide visual contrast and grounding, elevating their sculptural presence. Strongly influenced by French Empire design, these decorative cassolettes offer timeless character and make a refined statement in both traditional and transitional interiors. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
