Pair of 19th Century Dutch Delft Blue and White Faience Cattle Scene Vases
$1,075
About
Decorate a mantel, console, or bookshelf with this charming pair of antique Delft vases crafted in Holland circa 1880. Tall and cylindrical in form with gently flared rims, each faience vessel is richly hand painted in the traditional blue and white Delft palette and decorated with pastoral countryside scenes featuring grazing cattle, trees, and distant figures beside reflective waterways.
The scenic reserves are framed within elaborate floral and foliate borders accented with scrolling motifs and stylized blossoms, creating a refined balance between decorative ornament and rural imagery. The elongated form gives the pair an elegant architectural presence, while the hand-painted surfaces retain the subtle tonal variations and character associated with late 19th century Dutch faience production.
Signed “Delft” on the underside for further authenticity, the antique vases are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn beautifully aged cobalt blue decoration over a soft cream white ground. A wonderful addition for collectors of blue and white ceramics or European country interiors.
