Pair of 19th Century French Carved Marble Eagle Sculptures with Glass Eyes

$1,300

About

Crafted in France circa 1880, this charming pair of hand-carved marble eagles captures the majesty of these birds of prey in a compact and highly decorative form. Each sculpture is rendered from creamy variegated marble with dramatic gray veining, lending the wings and plumage a striking naturalistic texture. The birds are perched atop rocky bases, their talons delicately carved and their expressions brought to life with inset glass eyes, adding a subtle yet lifelike intensity. Despite their modest scale—measuring 8.5 inches high by 2.5 inches wide and 3 inches deep—they are rich in detail and presence. In very good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age, these figures are ideal as desk accents, paperweights, or decorative objects in a cabinet of curiosities. A beautiful example of 19th-century French animal sculpture with both artistic and ornamental app
