Pair of 19th Century French Louis XIV Walnut Chairs with Needlepoint Seats
$995
About
Decorate a study, bedroom, or sitting area with this elegant pair of antique walnut chairs. Crafted in southern France circa 1870, each chair is built with a tall ladderback featuring three beautifully scalloped slats framed by turned uprights topped with delicate finials. The chairs stand on richly turned legs joined by an eye-catching carved X-form stretcher centered with a decorative turned finial, a hallmark of classic Louis XIV styling.
The generously sized seats retain their original hand-stitched needlepoint upholstery, each displaying unique floral and foliate motifs in warm earth tones. One seat is centered with an exotic bird reserve, while the companion chair showcases an intricate scrolling floral composition, adding charm and individuality to the pair. Decorative brass nailhead trim outlines the upholstery and complements the warm walnut frame beautifully.
With their elegant proportions, sculptural silhouette, and richly aged surface, these antique side chairs would make wonderful accent seating in a library, entryway, or at the ends of a farmhouse dining table. The pair is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina with desirable antique character throughout.
