Pair of 19th Century French Louis XVI Bronze Lyre Form Chenets Andirons
$2,600
About
Bring timeless French elegance to a fireplace with this exceptional pair of antique Louis XVI bronze chenets. Crafted in France circa 1880, the andirons are cast in solid bronze and feature an elegant neoclassical lyre-form silhouette inspired by designs of the late 18th Century.
Each chenet is richly decorated with finely cast laurel garlands, hanging fruit swags, acanthus leaves, and a flaming urn finial. The lyre strings suspend a central bronze orb, while the bodies stand proudly on stylized lion paw feet raised above stepped rectangular bases. The front connectors are adorned with small classical urn finials and finely fluted arches, completing the balanced architectural composition.
With their refined proportions and warm golden patina, these antique bronze fireplace ornaments make an impressive decorative statement whether displayed before a working fireplace or used purely as sculptural accessories in a traditional or contemporary interior.
The heavy anndirons are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich patinated gilt bronze finish. Weight 15 pounds each.
