Pair of 19th Century French Polished Repousse Urn-Shaped Table Oil Lamps
$2,200
About
These elegant antique “Lampes a Petrole” (or oil lamps) were crafted in France, circa 1870. The spelter fixtures, converted into table lamps, sit on a round silvered base. They feature the original flame regulator mechanism including the off and on turning key at the pediment. (The flame regulator mechanism, was originally used to adjust the height of the wick, allowing precise control over the flame size and light intensity). Each repousse urn table lamp features detailed cherubs playing musical instruments, framed by swirling grape vines. They are dressed with graceful ram’s head handles on each side, enhancing the sculptural form and classical influence. Both lamps are equipped with a single light. The Neo-classical fixtures are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorn a rich patinated silver finish. Place these elegant antique lamps on bedside tables or on top of a console in an entry! Shades not included. Measures: 7″ Diameter x 18.5″ H
