Pair of Mid-Century Chinese Famille Rose Garden Stools
$1,975
About
This refined pair of mid-century porcelain garden stools brings sculptural beauty and exotic charm to any interior or garden setting. Crafted in China circa 1960 each vintage seat is pierced on the top and around the perimeter, creating an intricate, architectural effect characteristic of traditional Chinese drum stools. The design is further embellished with raised red and white dot appliqués in high relief, lending a textured and decorative finish. Hand-painted in the classic Famille Rose palette, each stool features two vivid outdoor scenes depicting joyful ladies in flowing robes, a traditional artistic theme identified by the inscription 仕女圖 meaning “Picture of Elegant Ladies.” The accompanying calligraphy reads “Painted by Wang Ziping in the Art Studio,” a typical mid-century workshop signature, complete with artist seals. Rich turquoise, pink, coral, and gold scrollwork encircles the upper border, framed by Greek key patterns and delicate floral motifs. The result is a striking balance of sculptural form, color, and cultural storytelling. Both garden stools are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and function beautifully as side tables, plant stands, or accent seating. Measures: 12.75″ diameter x 16.5″ height.
