Pair of Mid-Century Dutch Delft Blue and White Faience Ginger Jars

About

This elegant pair of vintage Delft ginger jars combines classic Dutch blue-and-white decoration with a richly detailed, highly decorative presence. Crafted in Holland circa 1960, each large faience potiche features a rounded baluster-form body covered in hand-painted cobalt blue decoration against a creamy white ground.

The bodies are arranged with alternating shaped medallions depicting flowering branches, blossoms, and foliage, framed by elaborate scrolling borders, stylized floral motifs, and geometric ornament. Coordinating domed lids repeat the floral decoration and are surmounted by charming molded dog-form finials, giving each jar an appealing sculptural quality. Decorative bands around the neck and foot complete the balanced composition.

The pair displays slight variations in height and painted detail, consistent with their hand-finished character. One underside retains a painted maker’s mark and an additional faded factory stamp. Their saturated cobalt palette and traditional floral decoration make them particularly attractive displayed on an enfilade, commode, mantel, or large console, either together or flanking a mirror or painting.

Both antique-style jars are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a rich glazed finish and vivid blue decoration throughout.
