Pair of Mid-Century French Trompe l’Oeil Concrete Medicis Fruit Vases on Stand
$2,900
About
This impressive pair of antique-style French garden ornaments was crafted circa 1960 in the trompe l’oeil tradition. Made of solid concrete, each Médicis form vase is richly carved with an abundant arrangement of fruit, including grapes, pears, apples and pomegranates, creating the illusion of a true overflowing harvest. The sculptural composition rests on a shaped pedestal base decorated with raised fleur-de-lys motifs, lending strong architectural presence and classical French character. The surface displays a beautifully weathered terracotta colored patina with soft tonal variation, enhancing the depth of the carving and giving the pieces an authentic timeworn appeal. Heavy and extremely durable, each two-piece ornament weighs over 180 pounds, making them ideal for exterior placement. These substantial garden vases would make a striking statement flanking a front entrance, courtyard, terrace, or formal garden path. The pair is in good antique condition commensurate with age and use, with natural surface wear consistent with outdoor exposure. A chip on one of the corners, see last image. Dimensions: 13.75″W x 13.75″D x 41.5″H
