Pair of Mid-Century Italian Painted Wood Architectural Altar Finials
$15,000
About
This striking pair of antique Italian architectural finials was crafted in wood circa 1950 and likely originated from an ecclesiastical interior, such as an altar rail, processional standard, or decorative balustrade element. Sculpted in a classical baluster form, each piece rises from a stepped circular base into a faceted urn-shaped body, culminating in a tapered neck designed to receive a pricket, rod, or ornamental mount. The surfaces are finished in a beautifully aged faux-bronze patina with hand-applied paint in deep verdigris tones, complemented by distressed silvered accents that highlight the molded bands and contours. This layered finish, combining verdigris and silver tones, mimics oxidized metal and gives the pieces a rich, timeworn character while retaining the warmth of carved wood. The proportions are bold and sculptural, giving the pair strong visual presence whether used symmetrically on a console, flanking a fireplace, or incorporated into a layered vignette. Their architectural origin lends them an authenticity and gravitas that elevate them beyond simple decorative objects. The pieces remain in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with expected wear to the painted and silvered surfaces that enhances their antique character. A highly decorative and versatile pair of antique Italian finials, ideal for adding height, structure, and old-world charm to both traditional and transitional interiors. Could easily be converted into table lamps. Dimensions: 7″Diameter x 20″H
