Pair of Mid-Century Italian Two-Tone Patinated Bronze Figure Candle Holders
$1,600
About
Decorate a mantel or an office with this elegant pair of antique bronze candle holders. Crafted in Italy circa 1950, both subjects depicts two figures (a boy and a girl) in formal clothing and holding a candle torch. Each composition is finely cast in bronze with a patinated black finish for the skin and gilded accents for the elaborate costume, headpiece, and accessories. The figures stand proudly on a decorative base, wearing a richly textured outfit decorated with floral and classical motifs, while holding a torch or candlestick in one hand and gesturing gracefully with the other. These figures were originally inspired by exoticized depictions of African and Middle Eastern individuals, often shown in servile or ornamental roles, and were frequently used as torchères, candelabras, or furniture supports in European aristocratic interiors. Both figure candlesticks are in excellent condition commensurate with wonderful details, and adorn a rich two-tone patinated black and gilt finish. These Rococo style sculptures could also easily be mounted into table lamps. Candles not included. Measures: 7″W x 5″D x 16″H.
