Terrestrial World Globe on Iron Stand by George F. Cram and Co. circa 1946

$1,800

About

Decorate an office or a study with this elegant antique globe. Crafted in Indianapolis, Indiana circa 1946, the collectible piece sits on a bronze painted cast iron tripod base decorated with paw feet; it features a brass half meridian. The stem holds a 12″ swivel globe which is signed Cram Universal, made by George Cram and Co., Indianapolis, Indiana. Displaying the world as it was around the end of WW2, this globe does not show Israel, which tells you it was made before 1948. Furthermore, it shows Tanganyika (instead of Tanzania), which tells you it was made between 1946 and 1961. A beautiful piece of world history that is sure to inspire any traveler. The terrestrial globe is in very good condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns wonderful patinated colors. Some small paper lost spots. Founded in 1869, the George F. Cram company has outlived almost all other 19th century map publishers to remain a major name in the industry today. The George F. Cram Company began manufacturing globes in 1932. The history of the George F. Cram Company spans over 130 years. During that time, the company has always believed in honesty and fair treatment. It is their passion to continue to employ these virtues as they continue to lead the industry with products that represent the highest levels of quality and innovation. Cram’s Mission — to provide quality geographical products to consumers and educators around the world has earned them the respect they deserve in the industry. The Cram globe and map products meet the highest standards of craftsmanship and editorial quality & are considered the standard that other educational globe and map products are compared against. Cram views its end customers as part of an extended family on a common Mission of conducting business in the most pleasant, honest and efficient manner possible. As of the beginning of 2012, the George F. Cram company’s operations have been shut down & all products have been discontinued at this time.
