Vintage French Outdoor Weathered Carved Stone Toad Sculpture

$975

About

Decorate an outside front door or a backyard with this large “Crapaud” (French for toad). Crafted in southern France and made of stone, the heavy frog is set on a flat and stable base and has a hole leading from its mouth to its underside allowing it be used as a fountain. Captured in a sitting position, the amphibian has a wise and gentle expression, further embellished with its characteristic bumps in high relief. The stone animal is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated antique weathered finish with evidence of outdoor use. The sculptural art would make a great addition to any garden or outdoor space. The sculpture weighs 96 pounds. The name “toad” derives from Old English “tāde,” which is thought to be of unknown origin, reflecting the creature’s ancient and widespread presence in folklore and natural history. Measures: 14.5”W x 17” D x 11” H.
