About
Place this large, colorful antique stand at your front door or in your mudroom to collect umbrellas, canes or other accessories. Created in England, circa 1930, the colorful iron bucket with top and back handle features a rich burgundy background, and is decorated with an elaborately painted coat of arms, executed with impressive attention to heraldic tradition and detail. At the center, a white shield bears a bold black cross flory, its ends adorned with Fleur-de-Lis, symbolizing faith, honor, and perseverance. At each quarter of the cross, crossed swords and keys, painted in red and blue, represent both earthly authority and spiritual guardianship, a motif often linked to civic duty or ecclesiastical ties. Flanking the shield are two powerful supporters: on the left, a black lion rampant, evoking strength and courage; on the right, a silver horse rampant, suggesting freedom, loyalty, and spirited resolve. Above the shield rises a knight’s helmet, surmounted by a golden mural crown (symbolizing municipal strength) and a blue-and-white wavy globe, likely representing global outlook or maritime heritage. Graceful mantling and greenery surround the helm, adding elegance and balance to the composition. Below, a ribbon bears the Latin motto: “Ad Summa Nitamur”, or “Let Us Strive for the Highest.” This noble phrase reflects a commitment to aspiration, excellence, and the pursuit of lofty ideals. The colorful bucket is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns rich hand painted colors. Versatile, the coal or fire bucket could also be used to hold wood burning wood next to a fireplace. Measures: 18.75″ W x 16″ D x 17″ H.
