Crafted in France circa 1930, this finely modeled bronze sculpture depicts a majestic elk mid-stride, head lifted in a proud call. The naturalistic form captures detailed musculature and expressive antlers with striking realism, reflecting the influence of the French animaliers and early Art Deco style. The warm patinated bronze is mounted on an organically shaped marble base, textured to resemble rocky terrain. The piece is signed DE. FIESOLE, a sculptor active in the early 20th century whose name appears on several bronze animal figures from the period. Likely drawing inspiration from the Tuscan town of Fiesole, renowned for its artistic heritage, the artist worked in a style that blends classical Italian influence with French decorative sensibilities. Though little is documented about the sculptor’s life, works signed De. Fiesole are recognized for their craftsmanship and movement, often produced for both domestic and export markets during the interwar years.
