19th C. French Louis XV Gilt Wall Mirror with Carved Cartouche and Floral Crest
$4,400
About
This antique French Louis XV-style mirror was crafted circa 1870 and features an arched giltwood frame richly embellished with Rococo carvings. Measuring 61 inches high, 32.75 inches wide, and 4.5 inches deep, the mirror commands attention with its generous scale and ornate detailing. The pierced crest centers on a bold rocaille cartouche, flanked by scrolling acanthus leaves, laurel branches, and floral sprays, all hand-carved and finished in a warm, time-softened gold leaf. The original mercury glass plate exhibits gentle silvering loss, adding character and depth. Beaded inner trim and scrolling lower corners reinforce the frame’s graceful silhouette. The back retains its original wood panels and is now fitted with a new hanging wire for ease of installation. With its stately proportions and refined ornamentation, this 19th-century mirror is a striking antique accent for a mantel, console, powder room or entryway.
