About
This impressive antique mirror was hand-carved in Italy circa 1770 and exemplifies the bold grandeur of the Baroque period. Crafted from richly detailed giltwood, the frame features dramatic relief carving with stylized acanthus scrolls, fan-shells, and foliate motifs, hallmarks of mid-18th-century Italian craftsmanship. The surface is finished in warm gold leaf, enhancing the sculptural depth and ornamental flourishes. Measuring 40.25 inches wide by 50 inches high and 3.5 inches deep, the mirror’s substantial proportions and architectural presence make it a commanding focal point, whether displayed vertically or horizontally. The back retains early panel construction and is fitted with a later wire for hanging. The original mercury glass plate shows attractive speckling consistent with age. A striking and authentic Baroque mirror with exceptional scale and decorative impact. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
