Early 20th Century Painted Bentwood Swivel “Perroquet” Coat Stand Thonet Style
$1,900
About
Crafted in France circa 1890, this elegant antique “Perroquet” or hall tree is executed in the style of German-Austrian cabinetmaker Michael Thonet (1796–1871), renowned for his pioneering bentwood technique. Made of ebonized beechwood, the stand features a smoothly rotating crown fitted with two graduated tiers of six hooks each, twelve in total, allowing it to function beautifully as both a hat and coat rack. The lower tier includes additional looping scrolls, traditionally used for storing umbrellas or walking sticks. A finely turned central column rises from a splayed four-leg base, each foot gracefully bent for visual harmony and balance. The deep black lacquer finish emphasizes the sculptural form and refined construction. A functional and decorative statement piece, ideal for a foyer, boutique, or mudroom. In excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Measures: 27.75″ W x 27.75″ D x 76.5″ H.
