19th C. French Louis XV Cast Iron Planters with Original Polychrome Paint
$1,800
About
Crafted in France circa 1870, this pair of cast iron planters reflects the graceful curves and ornate foliate motifs characteristic of the Louis XV style. Each features a shapely bombe-form body set on scrolled feet, with a flared, petal-like rim and richly reliefed Rococo-inspired decoration on all sides. The surfaces retain their original layered polychrome finish in deep blue, red, and cream, now beautifully weathered to a soft, timeworn patina. Interiors show the expected oxidation for their age, each with a central drainage hole for planting. Measuring 12″ W x 12″ D x 12″ H, these jardinieres are ideally sized to flank an entryway, accent a terrace, or bring a touch of antique French elegance indoors. In very good condition commensurate with age, they offer both decorative charm and sturdy construction. Sold as a pair.
