19th C. French Louis XV Veneer Jardinière with Bronze Ormolu Mounts & Zinc Tray
$2,900
About
Crafted in France circa 1860, this elegant 19th century jardinière is a fine example of the Louis XV style. The shaped rectangular body is veneered in palissandre (rosewood), celebrated for its richly variegated grain and warm patina, and is adorned with finely cast and chased bronze ormolu mounts. The decorative motifs include floral garlands, scallop shells, and scrolling acanthus, while a pierced ormolu gallery of interlaced foliage crowns the top, emphasizing the graceful contours. The jardinière retains its original removable zinc liner with side handles, intended to hold plants or flowers. Cabriole legs, finished with gilt bronze sabots, are further embellished with ormolu chutes that extend the full length of each leg. Measuring 26.5 inches wide, 16 inches deep, and 31 inches high, this antique jardinière is in excellent condition with a rich patina to both the wood and mounts, consistent with age and use. A versatile decorative piece, it may be used as a planter, wine cooler, or accent table, bringing timeless French refinement into contemporary interiors.
