Crafted in Connecticut circa 1920 by the Barbour Silver Company, this finely detailed bowl is executed in silver-plated copper with rich repoussé and pierced work. The square, scalloped form features an open lattice border adorned with scrolling foliage and cartouches of fruit and flowers. At the center, a lively tavern scene unfolds in high relief, depicting a woman serving drinks to two men seated at a table, with a small dog at their feet, a composition reminiscent of 17th-century Dutch genre painting. The bowl bears the firm’s hallmark of a windmill flanked by pipes, one of the distinctive trademarks of Barbour Silver Co., which became part of the International Silver Company in 1898. The silver plate retains a deep, warm patina that enhances the sculptural depth of the repoussé and openwork detailing.
