19th C. French Black Forest Carved Walnut Wall Hunting Panel with Center Mirror
$2,600
About
Bring character and storytelling to a study, lodge-style living room, or entryway with this impressive antique Black Forest wall piece, carved in France circa 1880 and later converted from a clock case into a round-framed mirror. Executed in richly patinated walnut, the plaque showcases the deep relief carving and naturalistic detailing typical of high-quality 19th-century Black Forest work. At the crest, a finely rendered hunting dog emerges from a wreath of oak leaves and branches, while the sides feature classic game motifs: a trio of fish suspended in a woven basket on one side and a hanging fowl with hunting pouch and powder horn on the other. Scrolling acanthus leaves, foliage sprays, and a bold shell motif anchor the composition, all carved with remarkable texture and dimensionality. The central circular opening now houses a mirror, retaining the original carved surround with incised leaf patterns. The walnut displays a warm, even patina that enhances the crispness of every hand-tooled detail. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, this striking wall piece makes an evocative decorative statement in any nature-inspired or rustic interior. Measures: 26.75″ W x 34.5″ H x 4″ D.
