19th Century French Louis XV Style Gilt Bronze Vanity Table Mirror
$995
About
Graceful curves and finely cast ornament distinguish this antique freestanding vanity mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the dressing mirror is made of gilt bronze in the Louis XV style. Its shaped frame is crowned by an ornate cartouche and embellished throughout with scrolling acanthus leaves, floral motifs, and delicate rocaille decoration. Curved feet support the frame and lend the mirror an elegant, well-balanced silhouette.
The original beveled mercury glass displays the subtle foxing and softly reflective character expected of an antique mirror plate. An elaborate hinged easel stand at the back allows the mirror to rest securely on a dressing table, vanity, bathroom counter, or chest of drawers. A small retaining chain controls the opening of the support and preserves the desired viewing angle.
The tabletop mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use. Its warm, richly patinated gilt finish highlights the depth and detail of the cast decoration, while the naturally aged glass adds authentic 19th-century character.
