19th Century French Porquier-Beau Quimper Fleur-de-Lys Form Faience Vase
$750
About
Bring regional Breton artistry to a shelf, console, or cabinet with this sculptural antique faience vase, crafted in Brittany circa 1890 and shaped as a stylized fleur-de-lis. Painted entirely by hand, the vessel features one panel with a colorful floral bouquet and another with traditional Breton figures in period dress. Scrolled foliate ornament in green and gold frames the central scenes, while the foot shows the classic black-and-white Quimper star motifs accented with rich cobalt blue. The underside is marked Châteaulin with the Porquier-Beau monogram PB, confirming production during the firm’s most collectible artistic period. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use. The Porquier-Beau partnership, active from about 1875 to 1904, represents the zenith of Quimper faience production. Under the artistic direction of Alfred Beau, the workshop elevated regional pottery to a refined art form characterized by painterly detail, naturalistic scenes, and innovative molded shapes such as this fleur-de-lys model. Porquier-Beau’s output remains sought after by collectors for its craftsmanship, historical charm, and unmistakable Breton identity. Dimensions: 6.5″ W x 6″ D x 9.5″ H.
