19th Century French Louis Philippe Carved Giltwood Mirror with Floral Motifs
$4,600
About
This refined antique wall mirror was crafted in France circa 1860 and exemplifies the understated elegance of the Louis Philippe period. The substantial carved giltwood frame is adorned with floral garlands and scrolling foliage executed in high relief, with softly rounded corners and a delicate beaded inner trim that define the classic Louis Philippe silhouette. The frame is notably thick and well proportioned, giving the mirror a strong architectural presence while remaining restrained and versatile. Retaining its original mercury glass, the mirror surface displays a soft, silvery shimmer with gentle foxing and subtle aging consistent with its age, adding depth and authentic character. The original water-gilded finish has matured into a warm, time-earned patina, with scattered areas of wear revealing glimpses of the traditional red bole beneath the gold leaf. The original wood backing remains intact, and new hooks have been added to the reverse for secure hanging. Elegant yet highly adaptable, this antique French mirror is well suited for placement above a mantel, in an entryway, hallway, powder room, dining room, or bedroom, where it can serve as a commanding focal point without overpowering the space. The mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and presents beautifully. Dimensions: 34.5″ W x 56″ H Weight: 56 lbs
