19th Century French Louis XIII Oak Refectory Monastery Table with One-Board Top
$16,000
About
Hand-crafted in southern France circa 1860, this substantial antique refectory table embodies the robust architectural character of the Louis XIII style. Constructed from solid oak, it features an exceptional single-plank top measuring over eight feet in length, showcasing dramatic grain movement, natural knots, old peg details, and a beautifully timeworn surface developed over nearly two centuries. The thick top rests on two trestle supports joined by a long stretcher, providing both stability and classic monastery-table proportions. Shaped feet and chamfered uprights reflect the restrained geometry typical of the period, emphasizing strength and balance over ornamentation. The heavy table retains a warm and rich oak patina throughout and is in excellent antique condition commensurate with age, with surface wear and wonderful distress consistent with use. At more than eight feet long, the table comfortably seats 8 and can accommodate up to 12 depending on chair scale, making it ideal as a dining table, large kitchen table, or statement farmhouse refectory table. Dimensions: 98.75″W x 31.25″D x 29.5″H
