19th Century French Walnut and Brass Adjustable Lyre-Form Lutrin Music Stand
$1,600
About
Crafted in France circa 1870, this elegant antique music stand, or lutrin, is built of solid walnut and designed in the graceful form of a classical lyre. The shaped upper crest is centered with a decorative rosette and fitted with slender brass rods framed by scrolling brass arms, creating a refined silhouette inspired by traditional musical instruments. The design reflects the decorative taste of the Napoleon III period, when classical motifs such as the lyre were widely used in furniture associated with music rooms and salons. The shaped reading ledge features a small brass peg to help secure sheet music or a book in place. The stand is mounted on a slender iron rod that allows the height to be adjustable and secured with the original brass key. The column rises from a turned walnut pedestal base and displays a warm and rich walnut patina developed over time. Both decorative and functional, this antique French music stand brings sculptural presence to a music room, library, or study while serving as an elegant display for sheet music or a large book. The piece remains in excellent antique condition commensurate with age and use. Dimensions: 17.5″W x 10″D x 45.5″H Goes all the way up to 55″H
