Pair of 18th Century French Carved Polychrome Male & Female Bust Wall Sculptures
$261
About
Decorate a wall with this striking pair of antique carved bust fragments. Crafted in France circa 1750, the high-relief sculptures depict a male and female figure rendered in the expressive Baroque manner. Each figure is modeled with finely detailed features, flowing hair, and deeply carved drapery that creates strong movement and shadow.
The male figure is distinguished by a full beard and mustache, while the female counterpart displays softer, more refined facial features, offering a pleasing contrast and visual balance when displayed together.
Carved from pine and finished with gesso and dark polychrome over an original silvered ground, the surfaces exhibit a beautifully timeworn patina. Areas of natural wear reveal traces of the underlying silver leaf, enhancing depth and authenticity. Both elements have been mounted on later wood backings with hanging hardware for ease of installation.
These antique carvings are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with expected wear to the painted and gessoed surfaces consistent with their age and original function. A compelling addition to a study, hallway, or curated wall composition.
