19th Century Italian Louis XV Carved Giltwood Wall Mirror with Mercury Glass
$1,800
About
Decorate an intimate wall space with this elegant antique Italian Louis XV style mirror, crafted circa 1870. The narrow frame is finely carved in giltwood with fluid asymmetrical scrolls, acanthus leaf motifs, and a pierced crest, all reflecting the refined Louis XV aesthetic. The shaped cartouche form and scrolling apron give the piece a graceful, sculptural presence.
The mirror retains its original mercury glass plate, showing light, desirable spotting and gentle oxidation consistent with age, while still offering a clear reflection. The gilt finish has developed a warm, time-softened patina with subtle wear along the raised carvings, enhancing the depth and movement of the design.
The reverse reveals traditional wood backing and old wire for hanging, consistent with period construction. The piece is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
A refined decorative accent, ideal for an entryway or hallway; also suitable for a smaller powder room as a secondary mirror.
