19th Century French Black Forest Carved Bleached Oak Wall Mirror with Bird Crest
$4,600
About
Decorate an entry, powder room, or above a console with this exceptional antique Black Forest wall mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the richly carved oak frame is adorned throughout with high-relief oak leaves, acorns, and scrolling foliage, culminating in a striking sculptural pediment featuring a perched bird with outstretched wings. This naturalistic, forest-inspired carving is emblematic of the Black Forest style, which celebrates wildlife and woodland motifs in deeply sculpted woodwork.
The rectangular mercury glass plate is framed with a beaded inner border, adding depth and authenticity. The frame has been finished in a beautifully bleached oak tone, highlighting the intricate carving while offering a softer, more contemporary presentation.
The mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm, time-softened patina and minor wear consistent with its history. The back retains its original wood structure with later mounting hardware for secure wall installation.
A highly decorative and sculptural piece, ideal for bringing texture and character to both traditional and transitional interiors.
