19th Century French Hand Colored Engraving of Genoa by Zucchagni in Gilt Frame
$1,600
About
Decorate a study, or powder room with this elegant antique architectural engraving titled “Grande Albergo in Genova.” Created in France circa 1880, the finely detailed composition depicts a lively Genoa street scene with figures, riders, and grand classical buildings, executed in crisp engraved linework and enhanced with subtle hand coloring. The print is after an Italian view attributed to Zucchagni, and retains French publishing inscriptions including “Correction du dessin…” at lower left and “Imprimé par l’Éditrice PV” at lower right, indicating a French-issued edition of the subject. The scene offers strong perspective and architectural presence, capturing the character and movement of historic Genoa. The artwork is set inside its original carved wood frame with a rich, time-softened gilt finish, decorated with a repeating gadroon and fluted motif that complements the classical subject matter. The antique engraving is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light, age-appropriate toning to the paper and a warm patinated surface. Dimensions: 15.5″W x 12.5″H
