Pair of 19th C. Italian Neoclassical Painted Nightstands with Faux Marble Tops
$2,600
About
Place this charming pair of antique nightstands beside a bed, or anchoring a hallway vignette. Crafted in Italy circa 1870, each cabinet is built in a simple single-door form raised on slender tapering legs, reflecting a provincial interpretation of Neoclassical Louis XVI style with a warm, folk-art sensibility.
The façades are beautifully hand-painted with symmetrical urn and scrolling foliate motifs in muted green and terracotta tones, set against a rich ochre ground and framed by a red border. The decoration draws from classical ornament yet retains the softness and individuality of regional Italian craftsmanship. Each top is finished in faux marble, skillfully painted to imitate a richly veined surface, adding depth and contrast while remaining practical for everyday use.
Each door opens to a painted interior fitted with a fixed shelf, offering useful bedside storage. The original hardware is intact, and the surfaces retain their original painted finish with visible wear, paint losses, and surface irregularities that enhance the authentic antique character. The faux marble tops show expected age including light surface wear and stable hairline veining consistent with the finish.
These antique cabinets are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and present beautifully with a time-softened patina.
