Mid-Century French Walnut, Chestnut & Burlwood Parquetry Refectory Dining Table
$26,000
About
Handcrafted in Southern France circa 1950, this impressive monastery-style refectory table was constructed using a remarkable combination of reclaimed 18th and 19th century woods, including walnut, burl walnut, chestnut, and acacia. The expansive rectangular top showcases an intricate parquetry design with richly figured veneers framed by dark contrasting banding and accented with geometric star inlays, creating a refined yet rustic provincial aesthetic.
The thick molded top rests on two substantial turned pedestal supports joined by a long stretcher for stability and architectural presence. Each pedestal terminates on sculpted trestle bases with elegant scroll details and shaped feet, reflecting the enduring influence of traditional French monastery and refectory tables. The varied antique woods lend exceptional warmth, depth, and movement to the surface, enhanced by a beautifully aged patina and naturally time-softened character throughout.
The table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with beautiful surface wear, minor old restorations, and a rich walnut patina. A striking statement piece for a grand dining room, wine country interior, or refined country French home.
