Early 20th Century French Barbotine Faience Floral Wall Pocket
$725
About
Decorate a powder room, hallway, or garden room with this charming antique French barbotine wall pocket. Crafted in France circa 1920, the faience wall vase is modeled in the exuberant Rococo taste with deeply molded scrolling acanthus leaves, pierced edges, and a graceful shell-form silhouette. Designed to hang on the wall, the decorative pocket features a flared vessel ideal for displaying fresh flowers, dried botanicals, or simply as a colorful decorative accent.
The hand-painted decoration showcases a vibrant floral bouquet with white daisies, red and yellow blossoms, blue forget-me-nots, and green foliage, all set against a crisp white glazed ground. The sculptural surface is further enriched with delicate touches of lavender, blue, and gilt highlights along the curling edges and molded details. The lively relief work and naturalistic flowers are characteristic of French barbotine ceramics produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The antique wall pocket is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor surface wear consistent with age. The piece retains beautiful color and would make an elegant addition to a collection of French faience, majolica, or barbotine ceramics.
