19th Century French Oak Carpenter’s Press Console Table with Bottom Shelf
$4,800
About
Bring rustic architectural character to an hallway, den, or covered patio with this narrow antique carpenter’s press work table. Crafted in France circa 1860, the oak table measures almost seven feet in length and was originally used as a working carpenter’s bench or press. The piece retains wonderful period details including a thick plank top, heavy square legs, visible pegged joinery, a lower stretcher shelf, and an iron screw press mechanism mounted to one side.
The top surface shows a beautiful timeworn patina with old tool marks, saw cuts, knots, age cracks, small losses, and historic repairs, all adding to its authentic workshop character. The narrow proportions make it especially versatile as a console table behind a sofa, in a hallway, or along a wall, while the lower shelf provides both stability and practical space for books, baskets, pottery, or garden accessories.
With its rich aged oak finish and honest utilitarian form, this antique French carpenter’s table works beautifully in country French, farmhouse, rustic, or industrial interiors. It could also be used outdoors under a covered patio as a decorative garden console or serving table.
The antique table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a sturdy frame and wonderful natural patina.
