19th Century French Louis XVI Giltwood Mantel Mirror with Musical Trophy Crest
$3,800
About
Enhance a fireplace mantel, dining room, living room, or entry with this elegant antique Louis XVI mantel mirror. Crafted in France circa 1870, the giltwood frame is crowned with an exceptional hand-carved musical trophy crest featuring a hunting horn, sheet music, tambourine, ribbons, floral sprays, and foliate branches, a sophisticated neoclassical motif celebrating the arts.
The architectural frame is enriched with finely carved egg-and-dart molding, beaded trim, and floral rosettes at each corner, all surrounding the original mercury glass mirror with an elegant beveled edge and desirable age-related foxing. The warm gilt finish has developed a rich patina over time, beautifully highlighting the crisp carving and restrained symmetry that define the Louis XVI style. The back retains its original wood plank construction and is fitted with later hanging hardware.
This antique mantel mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a beautifully aged gilt finish, minor wear consistent with its age, and attractive speckling to the original mercury glass that enhances its authentic character.
