19th Century Louis Philippe Carved Giltwood Mirror with Cherub and Floral Motifs
$3,500
About
Crafted in France circa 1870, this elegant antique Louis Philippe giltwood wall mirror features a richly patinated gold leaf finish and a beautifully sculptural pediment. The crest is centered with a carved floral urn overflowing with blossoms, flanked by two seated cherub figures resting among scrolling acanthus and rocaille motifs. The rounded rectangular frame is embellished with a discreet engraved floral design, beaded inner molding, and the original mercury glass plate, giving the piece wonderful depth, softness, and authenticity.
The mirror retains its original wood backing and presents beautifully with age-related patina, light silvering, and timeworn wear to the gilt surface. Its tall, narrow proportions make it especially versatile, ideal for a powder room, above a commode, over a mantel, or placed in an entry, living room, or bedroom. New hooks and wire have been added to the back for easy installation. The antique mirror is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use.
