19th Century French Louis XVI Silver-Plated and Cut Crystal Sugar or Candy Bowl
$975
About
Crafted in France circa 1890, this elegant antique covered sugar bowl features a removable cut-crystal insert held within a finely detailed silver-plated metal frame, possibly silver over copper. The crystal bowl is decorated with a radiating starburst motif across the base and a finely ribbed border around the rim. A removable silver-plated lid, engraved with delicate Neoclassical decoration, is topped with an urn-form finial.
The architectural frame stands on four shaped supports with stepped feet and is accented with shield-form mounts. Two graceful scrolling handles embellished with foliate details complete the symmetrical Louis XVI style design. Ideal for serving candies, chocolates, nuts, or sugar cubes, the piece may also be displayed as a refined decorative accessory on a dining table, buffet, or bar.
The antique candy bowl is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with light surface wear to the silver-plated finish.
