Pair of 19th Century French Louis Philippe Mahogany Marble-Top Nightstands
$3,200
About
Elegant in proportion and richly figured, this pair of antique bedside tables combines practical storage with the restrained refinement of the Louis Philippe period. Crafted in France circa 1860, each tall cabinet is constructed of mahogany and dressed with beautifully figured mahogany veneers, creating warm color, depth, and decorative movement across the drawer fronts, paneled doors, and lower plinths.
Each nightstand is surmounted by a striking black-and-white veined marble top with clipped front corners and a molded edge. Beneath the marble, a single dovetailed drawer provides convenient storage and is fitted with an ornate brass escutcheon and key. The paneled cabinet door below opens with a decorative brass ring pull to reveal a spacious shelved interior suitable for books, personal accessories, or bedside necessities.
Restrained architectural moldings frame the façades, while turned bun feet complete the balanced silhouette. Their unusually tall and narrow proportions make these versatile cabinets ideal as bedside tables, nightstands, bedroom tables, end tables, or petite storage cupboards in a bedroom, dressing room, bathroom, or powder room.
The antique cabinets are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, retaining a rich, warm patina and beautifully preserved figured veneers. The marble tops present well, with dramatic natural veining and minor imperfections consistent with age.
