Richly carved with symbols of the harvest and rural life, this impressive antique buffet would bring warmth, architectural presence, and Old World character to a dining room, den, entry, or hunting lodge. Crafted in France circa 1860, the substantial cabinet is built of solid oak and reflects the bold Renaissance Revival craftsmanship associated with the Henri II style.

The rectangular top features projecting corners, a deeply molded edge, and a hand-carved gadrooned border. Beneath, two spacious drawers are decorated with scrolling grapevine foliage and fitted with distinctive hand-carved mask-form pulls. Floral rosettes accent the drawer dividers, while robust barley twist columns frame the façade and terminate at a substantial molded plinth base.

The pair of recessed paneled doors are embellished with finely carved high-relief harvest trophies tied with flowing ribbon bows. One panel displays an abundant arrangement of grapes, fruit, flowers, and a woven harvest basket, while the other features wheat sheaves, an ear of corn, rustic farming implements, and a broad-brimmed hat, celebrating the agricultural traditions of the French countryside. The cabinet opens to reveal a full-width interior shelf providing generous storage for table linens, serving pieces, barware, dinnerware, or collectibles.

The buffet has been professionally stripped to a warm bleached oak finish that beautifully highlights the natural grain and exceptional depth of the hand carving. The antique cabinet is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and retains its original working lock and key.
