Set of 10 Early 20th Century French Louis XIV Upholstered Oak Dining Chairs
$4,200
About
Create a distinguished dining setting with this impressive set of ten French dining chairs. Crafted in France circa 1930, each Louis XIV style chair is constructed of solid oak and features a tall, gracefully shaped upholstered back over a generously padded seat. The backs and seats are covered in richly woven floral tapestry upholstery in muted shades of gold, green, rust, rose, and blue, and finished with oversized hand-hammered brass nailhead trim that accentuates their elegant silhouette.
The sturdy oak frames stand on sculptural os-de-mouton (sheep-bone) legs joined by bold serpentine side stretchers and a classic H-form stretcher, hallmarks of Louis XIV and French Baroque-inspired furniture. The beautifully grained oak has developed a rich, warm patina over time, while the high upholstered backs create a refined architectural presence around a large dining, library, or conference table.
Comfortable, sturdy, and richly decorative, this versatile set of ten dining chairs would complement French Country, Louis XIV, Baroque Revival, traditional, or European-inspired interiors. They also work beautifully as side chairs in a study, library, or executive conference room. The chairs are in very good condition commensurate with age and use, with well-preserved tapestry upholstery displaying some wear consistent with age, and a rich oak patina throughout.
