Mid-Century French Louis XIII Style Spiral-Turned Cherry and Metal Hall Tree
$1,600
About
Elegant proportions and richly turned woodwork give this vintage French hall tree a strong decorative presence. Crafted in France circa 1950, the freestanding coat and hat stand is designed in the Louis XIII Revival taste, with a beautifully spiral-turned central shaft, sculpted baluster sections, and a warm polished cherry wood finish.
The upper section is fitted with an elaborate patinated metal crown issuing multiple gracefully scrolling hooks for coats, hats, scarves, handbags, belts, and other accessories. Pierced foliate decoration, molded detailing, and a central finial lend the top an architectural quality while contrasting beautifully with the warm cherry wood standard.
The tall shaft is especially striking, combining traditional baluster turnings with an extended barley-twist section that gives the hall tree both rhythm and visual height. Below, the stand is raised on an ornate tripartite patinated metal base decorated with scrolling foliate motifs and terminating in three sweeping feet with curled ends. The substantial metal foundation provides stability while reinforcing the richly detailed Louis XIII-inspired character.
Both decorative and practical, this vintage French porte-manteau would work beautifully in an entry hall, foyer, dressing room, bedroom, mudroom, boutique, or executive office. The hall tree is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich cherry wood patina with beautifully aged patinated metal throughout.
