Early 20th Century French Louis XV Four-Light Porcelain Flower Chandelier
$1,900
About
Graceful and highly decorative, this antique floral chandelier combines delicate porcelain blossoms with an airy scrolling metal frame inspired by the elegance of the Louis XV period. Crafted in France circa 1920, the four-light fixture features a curvaceous cage-form body fashioned from patinated and gilt metal, its sinuous branches intertwined with hand-fashioned leaves, tendrils, and climbing vines.
Scattered throughout the chandelier are numerous applied porcelain flowers in soft shades of pink, lavender, blue, yellow, and cream. Roses, carnations, and other blossoms are individually modeled and painted, creating a colorful garden-like effect against the dark patinated foliage. Four candle-form lights rise from leafy bobeches around the lower portion of the frame, while additional floral decoration continues upward toward the crown.
The chandelier is suspended from a long metal chain and finished with a gilt metal ceiling canopy, allowing its overall hanging height to be adjusted during installation. The fixture has been professionally rewired with new wiring to U.S. electrical standards and is ready for installation. Delicate yet visually substantial, this charming floral fixture would add romantic French character to a bedroom, powder room, dressing room, entry, or intimate dining space.
Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with minor wear and patina consistent with its antique character.
