Set of Two 19th Century French Weathered Concrete Pig Garden Sculptures
$1,200
About
Whimsical and full of rustic character, this set of two antique French garden sculptures depicts cheerful pigs emerging from barrel-shaped shelters. Crafted in France circa 1880, each composition is modeled in cast concrete with charmingly naive detail and a substantial, weighty presence.
The pigs are shown crouched forward beneath rounded barrel forms, with expressive snouts, small ears, and sturdy legs projecting onto integral bases. The barrels are carefully detailed with simulated wood grain, plank lines, and raised bands, giving the pieces the appearance of miniature casks. Decades of outdoor exposure have created a richly weathered grey surface with areas of moss, lichen, and natural discoloration, giving each sculpture the authentic patina collectors look for in antique garden ornament.
Their compact scale makes them especially versatile for placement along a garden path, beneath a covered patio, near a conservatory entrance, or as playful accents on a terrace or porch. Offered as a pair, the sculptures may also be sold individually.
Both are in excellent condition commensurate with age and outdoor use, with surface wear and weathering contributing to their distinctive antique character.
