Pair of 19th Century French Louis XVI Mahogany Marble-Top Nightstands
$2,200
About
This elegant pair of antique French nightstands combines refined Louis XVI proportions with richly figured contrasting veneers and decorative brass mounts. Crafted in France circa 1890, the bedside cabinets are built of mahogany and topped with a cream and ochre veined marble slab set within a molded wooden surround.
Each nightstand features a single upper drawer above a cabinet door opening to useful interior storage. Highly figured bird’s-eye maple panels accent the drawer and door fronts, creating a warm contrast against the darker mahogany case. The façades are further detailed with brass drawer pulls, graceful door handles, and finely cast foliate mounts applied to the upper corners. Paneled sides, rounded front edges, and tall, slender tapered legs complete the restrained neoclassical design.
With their tall and narrow proportions, the cabinets are especially well suited for use beside a bed, while their elegant scale also makes them attractive as petite end tables in a sitting room or living area.
The matching antique nightstands are in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm patinated finish throughout. The veined marble tops remain intact and show professional restorations consistent with age.
