20th Century French Louis XIII Carved Walnut Library Spiral Step Ladder
$975
About
Combining traditional French craftsmanship with a practical spiral design, this vintage Louis XIII style library ladder features a distinctive architectural silhouette and a rich walnut patina. Crafted in France circa 1980, the four-step ladder is constructed of walnut with four triangular steps arranged in an ascending spiral around a tall central turned post.
Each solid wooden step features a smooth surface with gently rounded edges, supported by short turned baluster legs. The central column is decorated with molded carved ring accents throughout and crowned with a decorative brass ball finial. The lower structure is reinforced with gracefully curved stretchers, adding stability while maintaining an open and balanced appearance. The warm panitated finish highlights the natural wood grain and subtle variations in the aged surface.
The compact spiral configuration makes this unusual staircase a practical addition to a library, study, or home office, providing access to elevated bookshelves while occupying minimal floor space. The ladder does not fold and retains its fixed four-step construction.
The vintage French library ladder is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich walnut patina. Its unusual design and traditional turned details make it both a functional library accessory and a decorative accent.
