18th Century French Louis XV Mahogany Three-Drawer Commode Tombeau from Bordeaux
$6,200
About
Crafted in Bordeaux, France, circa 1760, this elegant antique “Commode Tombeau” exemplifies the graceful curves and refined proportions associated with the Louis XV period. Built of richly figured mahogany, the chest features a bombe silhouette with serpentine sides, a shaped top with molded edge, and three deeply curved drawers across the façade. The drawers retain their original gilt bronze pulls and matching escutcheons, adding warmth and authenticity to the piece.
Raised on delicate escargot feet over a scalloped apron, the commode displays beautiful movement from every angle. The side panels are inset and molded, a hallmark of fine Bordeaux craftsmanship of the period. The richly patinated mahogany surface reveals exceptional depth and character, with warm reddish-brown tones and natural figuring throughout.
Elegant yet versatile, this antique French commode would work beautifully in a bedroom, entryway, living room, or dining room, offering both practical storage and timeless presence. Excellent condition commensurate with age and use, with a lustrous patinated finish and original hardware.
